New Orleans Service Industry Discounts
By Brew Bus Staff
So, you’ve spent the past 5 days slinging drinks, waiting tables, and cleaning up after people who you were pretending to be nice to for ten hours at a time.
At some point you probably had to play the role of marriage counselor and/or adult babysitter. Looks like you made a ton of cash but rent is due and you’ve gotta replace a tire on your car so that pile of dollar bills is bound to disappear sooner than it should.
Thankfully, plenty of local businesses aim to take care of good folks like yourself.
After all, servers and bartenders are always the best tippers, so why wouldn’t they want you in their fine establishments?
These local businesses are here to take care of you, even though it seems like you can’t take care of yourself.
The Country Club– 634 Louisa St, Wednesday – ½ off pool entry fee
Summer is upon us, and since this is New Orleans, chances are you live in a 150 year old house with A/C that just doesn’t cut it. Head to the country club on Wednesdays for half off entry to their pool.
You’ll feel like you’re at a resort in Cabo with their shady palm trees and the party atmosphere. Their kitchen is also fantastic; Boudin Balls, y’all.
If Wednesday isn’t enough, they offer a pretty sweet service industry discount for a year-round membership as well. Come back on Saturday for brunch served up by the city’s finest drag queens.
Kajun’s Pub– 2256 St Claude
Monday- 2 for 1 wells, High Life, Hornitos, and Jameson 7pm to 1am
Kajun’s is without a doubt everyone’s favorite spot in the city for Karaoke. Head to St. Claude to avoid the swarms of bachelorette parties butchering Bon Jovi songs that you never liked in the first place.
There are hardly any songs that you won’t find in their library and 2 for 1 specials until 1am should take care of any stage fright you have when you walk in the door.
Dragon’s Den– 435 Esplanade
$5 Beer and Shot specials, $5 Rum Punch, and $2 speciality shots 11pm until 3am Mondays
Once the home of Alister Crowley, The Dragons Den is tucked away between the French Quarter and the Marigny.
Thankfully it’s painted in bright Soviet red so you won’t miss it.
Two stages on two floors of live and electronic music usually bump until early hours of the morning and they take care of their spirit lifters on “Hangover Mondays” with DJ Ill Medina providing the soundtrack.
Parkway Bakery & Tavern– 538 Hagan
Mondays 7-10pm, $5 Jamo/High Life $3 draft and free fried pickles
Ask ten locals where to find their favorite Po-Boy in town and at least five of them will send you to Parkway. The fried shrimp Po-Boy is so over stuffed, you’ll have to eat at least 8 shrimp off it before you can fit in in your mouth.
It’ll probably cover you for two meals, and Monday is one of only two days out of the week when they serve fried oysters.
Bar Tonique– 820 N Rampart
25% off whole bar after 11pm every night
Don’t let the term cocktail bar scare you away. This place serves up finely crafted cocktails in a low-key, and unpretentious environment.
While most industry deals are on Mondays, Tonique hooks up the hard working night-owls 7 days a week. Plenty of other drink specials are offered ’round the clock.
Ace Hotel– 600 Carondelet
Family Affair Mondays 9pm- $6 beer and shot specials
Most people wouldn’t think to go to a hotel for cheap drinks, but the Ace is trying to change that. They rotate the DJs week-by week and this is one of the hottest spots in the city.
Come by earlier and enjoy their rooftop pool which is free and open to the public Monday-Thursday. Pay $20 to enter Friday-Sunday.
Erin Rose– 811 Conti St.
$2 High Life after Midnight Mon-Thursday
It’s just footsteps away from Bourbon Street, but miles away as far as atmosphere goes.
Erin Rose is well known by industry workers, but many might not know about this drink special.
If you’re not there after midnight for the special, be sure to grab a frozen Irish coffee and try one of the most unique Po-Boys in the city at the teeny-tiny kitchen in the back from Killer Po-Boys.
Attiki– 230 Decatur
Tues and Thurs – Happy Hour Prices all day long!
Attiki should be on the radar of anyone who works in the Quarter for cheap, quick, and healthy eats.
But if you’ve got the day off, why not relax on their comfy couches, throw back a few drinks, and share stories from the stressful work week over a shisha? It was cool way before vaping.
Bud Rips– 900 Piety St.
Happy Hour Midnight to Close on Sunday and all-day Monday
Bud Rips is one of the oldest bars in the city and has certainly changed since it was taken over by the owners of R Bar in 2014.
Long gone are the days when Budweiser was the only beer available on tap–they’ve got nearly a dozen today.
The bar is pretty cheap to begin with, but show up on Sunday night or anytime Monday for deeper discounts.
Wild Lotus Yoga Downtown– 2372 St. Claude Ave.
$10 Yoga Class Tues and Thurs at 2
Swan River Yoga – 2940 Canal
$8 yoga Friday at 1:30
Hey! Industry discounts that don’t involve booze! Every once in a while we get a day off that we don’t want to spend at a bar, and even if we do, maybe we should do something more productive before hitting the sauce.
Why not find a yoga class to clear your mind and prepare yourself for the hellacious weekend that is soon to follow?
La Boca– 870 Tchoupitoulas St
~50% off – 9:30-11:30 Thursdays
At the corner of Tchoup and St. Joseph, New Orleans becomes Buenos Aires. This is easily one of the best and most unique restaurants in New Orleans, and maybe the juiciest deal on this list.
Steak is far from the cheapest thing on a menu, but if you can hold off until 9:30 on Thursday, you can enjoy most of steaks on La Boca’s Menu for under $20, appetizers for $5.50, and discounted beer, wine and wells. Yum!
Brieux Carre Brewing Co., 2115 Decatur Street $1 off drafts from 6-10pm
Just feet from Frenchmen, the brewery has a service industry discount every Monday from 6pm to 10pm for $1 off all beers. Enjoy a cold one in their cute courtyard over a game of giant Jenga.
Second Line Brewing, 433 N. Bernadotte Street, $1 off pints, $2 off flights
Second Line just started Service Industry Mondays! Starting at 4pm service industry workers receive $1 off pints and $2 off flights of their beers. Relax in their beer garden with a cool brew!
Wayward Owl Brewing Company, 3940 Thalia Street, Beer discounts
Located in the old Gem Theater, Wayward has a fantastic space and frequent food trucks. They just added this new service industry discount with their new hours. They are now open 5-10pm on Mondays with $1 off all drafts, $1 off crOWLer fills, & $2 off growler fills. Take advantage of these great discounts and their fun shuffleboard table.
BONUS! #16 NOPSI Hotel, 317 Baronne St, Food & Drink Discounts
Tuesdays at NOPSI is Service Industry Night! They have a variety of deals on food as well as $5 craft beer, half price glass wine, $6 Highlife and Jameson, $8 chartreuse, and $6 fernet.
That’s a wrap and every penny counts! Be sure to support the local businesses who care about your bottom line. Cheers!
