LSU Chose Corporate over Local

Like many born & raised Louisianians, LSU football is a way of life. Already one of the world’s premier sports experiences just got better.
For the first time in the history of Tiger Stadium, LSU now sells beer on Gameday, becoming one of the first 50 universities in America to allow adult beverages.
A great first step that should not go overlooked! LSU officials, however, fell short with the actual beer selections.
LSU goes Corporate and Selects InBev
Instead of supporting local businesses who manufacture beer in Louisiana, only 1 of the 9 beers chosen were brewed in Louisiana. The other 8 beers are from corporately run brands profiting billions, specifically InBev.
Abita Strawberry was the lone Louisiana beer representing the craft beer category. The other 2 craft selections came from Houston, Texas’ Karbach Brewery, a craft brewery who was recently sold to InBev located in Belgium.

Do we see a theme here? InBev…
InBev, a $54 billion-dollar company, owns the likes of Bud Light, Budweiser, and a host of other American domestic brews.
This corporate behemoth outpaces the entire American craft beer industry, which is worth ~$30 billions from roughly 7,000 U.S. breweries.
Game 1 vs Georgia Southern on September 1 sold more than 27,000 pints generating $220,000 revenue. It’s a shame Louisiana could not keep those dollars in-house.
What’s the Solution?
It’s pretty simple. LSU Officials should ask the Distributor, Mockler Beverage, for Louisiana brews.
Here are a couple of easy wins:
Bayou Bengal Lager is essentially a better version of your Bud Light, Miller Lite, etc. It’s produced seasonally during football season in Baton Rouge by Tin Roof Brewing.
The beer says “Geaux Tigers” and it’s made locally. Enough said.
Another option would be Parish Brewing located 60 miles west on Interstate 10. Parish Canebrake was the gateway beer that bridged domestic and craft for me back in 2012.
It’s also a top-selling beer in bars around Baton Rouge.
LSU football stepped up their Offense in 2019, it’s time for LSU officials to do the same and choose Louisiana beer!
