urban-south new orleans breweries

One of the newest of the New Orleans breweries to enter the market in March of 2016, Urban South Brewery combines the heritage of European beer making with the brashness of new American styles. That mixture of cultural legacy and bold innovation is why Urban South opened in New Orleans.

For the hop heads, Urban South has been pumping out some really solid IPAs lately: Grapefruit IPA, Citralicious IPA, and the Double Dry Hopped Modillion IPA are all delicious.  Look for big things out of Urban South for years to come.

second-line-brewing-logo new orleans breweries

New Orleans’ first brewery in Mid-City, where you will predominately find locals only with really good beer. Second Line is derived from the uniquely New Orleans tradition of second line parades.

These parades can trace their origins to jazz funeral customs that began over 100 years ago. The second line parade tradition has grown over the years – now they are held to bring joy to almost any occasion. Regardless of the event, second line parades remain an unbridled expression of fun and celebration that is uniquely New Orleans.

Our favorite beer is the Route 47 Red IPA, named after the famous Canal St. Streetcar.  Check out their full website here.

Rivaling The Avenue Pub as one of the best tap list in the city, Courtyard Brewery is unique among New Orleans breweries, as they are a brewpub and can serve other beers as well as their own.  They have an incredible selection of 25 taps with approximately half taps being brewed by Courtyard—they specialize in IPAs, try one, they are all good. Our favorite is the Sonic Youth in 1983 or Preach!. Food Trucks are also there almost nightly. Good people; better beer.  Full taplist can be seen here.

Wayward Owl Brewing officially opened their doors in December 2016.  Justin Boswell, a previous Brewmaster at Black Raven Brewery in Seattle, which earned very high ratings on the well respected Beer Advocate, restored the old historic GEM Theatre in Central City. The new Brewery looks fantastic; the entire team did an amazing job.

Brieux Carre Brewing Company is made up of a couple of guys with a passion for all things beer. With a laissez faire approach to brewing, they like to embody the New Orleans spirit.  They want their brews to be as weird and interesting as the city we live in.

While they will always have a variety of brews on tap to suit every type of craft beer drinker, it’s Brieux Carre’s goal to challenge themselves and bring new recipes to the taproom every week. Located just a half-block away from the famous Frenchmen St., you will likely end up near this destination before your vacation ends anyway.
